Fridge Tips

Keep the fridge at a cool 1 - 5 degrees and chilled food will stay fresh for longer. Our most perishable (and often most expensive) food is kept in the fridge, so keep tabs on their use-by dates - the freezer may be the option for food we won't get round to eating in time.

  • Sweeter Strawberries

    Remove strawberries from fridge and bring to room temperature prior to eating, they always seem to taste sweeter this way

  • Storing Grapes

    Store grapes in the packaging you bought them in and refrigerate for freshness. Remove from fridge and bring to room temperature prior to eating..

  • Storing peppers

    Store peppers in the fridge in a loosely tied plastic bag or in pack it was bought in and your pepper will stay fresher for longer than those taken out of the bag.

  • Firmer Kiwi’s

  • Limp Carrots?

    Fed up with limp carrots? Carrots stay fresh and hard for even longer by chilling them and keeping in the packaging or loosely tied in the free vegetable bag they were brought home in.

  • Mushrooms

    Keep mushrooms in the paper bags provided by all the grocers and put in the fridge for freshness. Chilled they last much longer than if kept out of the fridge.

  • Firm up your pears

    Pears stay fresher and firmer in the fridge if kept in a loosely tied plastic bag. If necessary ripen at room temperature for a softer, juicier eat.

  • Keeping Melons Fresh

    Keep melons cool or in the fridge for freshness and they’ll last up to a week longer than if stored in room temperature. Decant to the fruit bowl prior to eating if preferred.

  • Firm Tomatoes

  • Soft vegetables:

    Put soft carrots and cucumber in a glass of water in the fridge - they'll perk up in no time.
