Use up left over veg to make a healthy & tasty soup - lovely weekend lunch with crusty bread. Any veg - the more the better, plus herbs, seasoning (tin of chopped tomatoes add colour & flavour). When cooked mash for chunky soup or liquidise for smooth. The options are endless - have never had a bad one & the kids love it!
Last drop out of the jar!

If you want to get the very last drop of jam/marmite out of a jar don't use a knife, use a small flexable spatular.

Excess fresh corn can be cut into "cobbettes" and frozen in freezer bags until ready to pop into a saucepan with boiling water for cooking. Thought I'd try it and see - it worked!
How to test if eggs are fresh
Submitted by LORRAINE ELLIS, WODONGA
Fill a jug with water, place in your eggs. If your eggs lay flat on the bottom they are fresh and good to use. If your eggs stand on end on the bottom, they are not quite as fresh but still good to use. If your eggs float, they are bad and should not be used. When eggs go bad, gas builds up inside them, it is this gas which makes them float.
Its all in the stem
Celebrity tip by Heston Blumenthal, Chef
Tomatoes have no smell. In fact, it’s the green stem that you smell and holds that true "greenhouse" fragrance that we associate with tomatoes. If you buy tomatoes on the vine, clean the stem, and put it into your tomato sauce at the end of cooking to give a real boost of fresh tomato flavour. The flavour release on the stem is heat sensitive so do not put it into a hot sauce – only when the sauce is warm.
