Reducing food waste when eating away from home

Ever find you've left food on your plate when you're eating away from home and thought 'what a waste?'

You're not alone! Watch our short video to find out what people say about the food they waste when eating out:

Leading hospitality and food service companies are playing their part and have signed up to a new agreement. We’re working with them to reduce food and packaging waste and increase recycling rates.

File 708The voluntary agreement aims to cut food and associated packaging waste by 5% (a CO2e reduction of 234,000 tonnes), the equivalent of about 100 million meals.

As part of this work, we are developing ideas for how we can all waste less food when we eat out – lots more information will follow over the next few months.

The voluntary waste agreement has been developed with industry and UK, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland governments. It builds on WRAP’s research  and the work already underway by the industry to waste less and recycle more. It also delivers on all UK governments’ commitment to tackle waste.

There’s strong support for the agreement with hundreds of signatories signed up including McDonalds, Greggs, Jurys Inn, Houses of Parliament, 3663, Compass and Unilever Food Solutions.

There’s loads of good work going on to help us all enjoy food, and waste less of it when we eat out.

We’ve also got some great recipes from our hospitality partners to help us all make the most of good food:
