Day two...it's starting to wear a bit thin!
So day two...
What's going well?
- I'm not actually that hungry
- Loads of support from readers of this blog and at work
- My lentil sauce was actually lovely last night so that bodes well given I have it for another 3 meals this week
- I'm still going!
What's not going so well?
- I'm bored!
- I want a cup of tea!
- I've had to turn down an invite to go out tomorrow night and the last two days seem to have seen the most amount of cakes bought into work ever (weddings, birthdays...)!
So ups and downs today but ultimately it's an amazing experience and one I would encourage others to do...a real glimpse into what life is like for people across the UK and globally living below the line.
One thing people have been saying is "that's not so small, £1 actually buys quite a lot in most developing countries". Unfortunately that's not how it works - the figure is calculated using Purchasing Power Parity so the living below the Extreme Poverty Line today is the equivalent of us in the UK living on £1 a day. A startling thought!
So my little contribution will hopefully encourage you all to take part or at least have an insight into what its like.
Back to reality...today, for those of you who are interested I have had 2 pieces of toast with a dollop of tom sauce with hot water for breakfast, (another!) jacket potato and beans for lunch, I'll save my daily apple until later and then bean soup for tea with a slice of bread. As much as I love pulses and beans....
I'm staying away from home for the next couple of days for work which I think will be even harder...after all I need to take my lunch, tea, breakfast and lunch again, I can't just pop in to a cafe for a coffee to do my email....it's going to be a strange few days...
...keep reading to see how it goes.
