We never buy ready meals and always cook from scratch. Nobody I know (except my mother) uses the bones from a roast chicken - such a waste as stock made from bones is really good for you, and I believe actually has healing properties. I put the bones in the freezer until I am ready to make stock and then soup - a family favourite, especially when made with veg from the garden, or you can use tinned stuff like tomatoes.
