With 5 kids, all big eaters, and a limited budget I hate waste and have always tried to use up bits and pieces I have leftover. My tip is to do an inventory of your fridge, freezer and cupboards once a month and then make up a menu plan using all the bits and bobs you have lurking in the depths of your cupboards. I did this after Christmas and have managed to feed the family for a whole month of main meals with only having to buy fresh fruit, veg, bread and a few other bits.
