I'm not the greatest or most confident cook but since having children, I have been more determined to cook healthy meals and economise. This site is an inspiration with the variety of recipes and ideas it contains. Food waste is yet another symptom of our fast paced, pressured society. Essential cooking skills (including how to plan and make the best use of bought ingredients) are not being passed down the generations as more people seem to be turning to ready meals on a more regular basis. Last month I ran out of plain flour whilst baking with my son and of the 4 neighbours we turned to for a spare cup, 2 found their's were out of date, 1 didn't have any and the fourth gave me an almost full bag as they rarely cook. I feel schools have an even greater role to teach key skills including how to economise, experiment and use up leftovers in an appetising way.
