Bring back the old-fashioned larder! My daughter's ex-council house, built in the 30s has one. My parent's 60's semi has one. I haven't so my cheese is too cold, my bananas too warm, jam goes mouldy because the kitchen's too warm but it's too solid if stored in the fridge. All new houses should include un-heated, ventilated larders, ideally on a north wall. Forget all the fancy fitted stuff made of MDF - give me a larder any day.
