StorageKeeping your food fresh until you are ready to eat it is important. 86% of us have access to a fridge at work, so pop your lunch in the fridge as soon as you get to work. If you don’t have a fridge at work, use a cool bag.
Cooked leftovers should be eaten within 2 days, rice within 24 hours.
It is easy to just pack up the leftovers from last night’s meal and re-heat it in the microwave at work. Always make sure it’s piping hot before serving. Don’t re-heat more than once.
Some leftovers are great eaten cold – in fact sausages and pizza can taste even better!
Even when you’re in a tearing hurry, you can still free-lunch.
Fruit is great to ‘grab and go’ as it needs no preparation. Apples can easily be added to your briefcase or lunch box. Take a few crackers from the cupboard and that half-full tub of hummus from the fridge for another quick and easy option. Carrots can be chopped into sticks to give a bit of crunch to your lunch!
Be scrupulous about checking the Use By dates when you are packing up your free-lunch. Yoghurts are the obvious choice, throw them in your lunchbox before they go out of date.
