WI - Rachel TaylorRachel Taylor is a mother of one from East London. Rachel took part in the Food Champions project as she was looking for ways to help her save time and plan to shop just once a week and get everything. She was also keen to join because of the social aspect.

“The project showed us different ways of doing things, like having a notebook to hand in the kitchen so whenever you run out of something, you note it down and just take the whole book to the supermarket with you: that’s your shopping list.”

“I know much more about storing foods to keep them better, and what you can and can’t freeze. I think a bit more about leftovers now and before throwing something away, I check to see whether it’s still okay to eat, and then think creatively about what to make with it.”

“Not only that, but I think ahead about the food we have in the house. We receive a box of fresh fruit and vegetables every week. In the past some of it would simply waste away, now I make the time to sit down, write a list and plan the food out for the week ahead. As a result, my son is getting more variety and I’m keeping my sanity! We are definitely buying less takeaway food, and that’s bound to be impacting our wallets. My advice to people is that it is worth taking the time to plan ahead as you will minimise the food you waste!”
