This website is a great step forward- the government needs to promote more awareness on this issue.
Milly Descrivan is a Primary school teacher from Cambridge. Milly lives with her husband and four children. She’s saved £200 a month on her food bill as a result of Love Food Champions, learning more about portioning, using leftovers, freezing foods and understanding date labels better.
“I was interested in the Love Food Champions project because I find it difficult to manage my food waste due to being so busy. The project has helped my family eat healthier. We have ‘leftover day’ at home now where I won’t cook anything new, we just use leftovers.”
“In the Easter Holidays, as an experiment, I went to my local supermarket to buy exactly what I needed when I needed it. My shopping bill was halved and food wastage practically non-existent.”
“The main thing that I have changed since taking part is cooking from scratch more frequently. Although I do still depend on ready made food, the suggestions for how to plan meals and think ahead have made a difference to my shopping and cooking habits. The project went really well, being involved in this initiative has given me a sense of great achievement.”
