Food on the Move

Taking your own food and drinks for a long car journey is a great idea and will save you pounds at the service stations.

Cool Bag
  • Make sure you keep food in a cool bag or ice box with plenty of ice packs. Store perishable foods in airtight boxes with lids or food bags. Airtight boxes allow you to transport several elements, such as dressings without the risk of spill or mess.
  • Recycled plastic containers leftover from the Chinese or Indian takeaway will work brilliantly as food transporters.
  • A good money saving tip is to make your own ice pack – just re-use old water bottles of different sizes. Fill them about 80% full of water and freeze until solid.
  • Ideally carry cool boxes inside an air-conditioned car, not in a hot boot.
