Clare Hall is 35 from Suffolk. Clare wanted to get involved in the project as she thinks minimising food waste is extremely important, especially now she has a new baby girl. Clare now freezes food more often, has a better understanding of portion sizes and has become more creative in the kitchen.
“As a triplet I’m from a large family, food was always more of a means to an end, so my cooking skills weren’t so great. Understanding more about freezing, food health and safety including knowing what date labels mean, portioning and planning ahead has meant that food at our house has become much better.”
“I buy locally and fresh each day. It doesn’t help that we have a tiny fridge, but the project made me think much more about portioning and planning ahead with my family’s food.
Now I make up vegetables one day, add some cheese sauce, freeze it and then when I want to defrost it I might then add an egg for a tasty meal for my daughter Rosie.”
“Rosie, my daughter benefits the most as she now has a more varied diet. As the next generation she could make the biggest difference in the future. When you have kids you get another perspective, throwing things away isn’t right and Rosie has been a catalyst for the changes we’re making at our house.”
“We’re definitely saving money, and my husband and I agree that morally minimising the food we waste is what we want to do. We even sat down together and organised our cupboards so we know exactly what is in there!”
